The Foundation was recently audited by the Charities Directorate of Canada Revenue Agency resulting in some surprising recommendations and requirements. The Trustees of the Foundation recently had a lengthy meeting to discuss contributions to local animal welfare charities in light of this audit. It was decided that a considerable higher degree of due diligence was required on the Foundation’s part before any funds can be disbursed. The period of time left in 2011 was not sufficient in order to perform this extended due diligence. As a result, it was decided that no contributions will be made this year and the amounts that would otherwise be disbursed will be carried over to 2012 and added to the contributions for that year. This will give the Foundation sufficient time to make contacts with eligible recipients in 2012 and begin the due diligence process.
